PORTLAND, Maine—A naturalized U.S. citizen has been indicted by a federal grand jury for his role in an alleged conspiracy to transport illegal aliens in Maine.

Brazilian native Carlos DaSilva of Portland was arrested by immigration agents last August. He's charged with conspiring with others to transport illegal aliens for commercial advantage and financial gain.

U.S. Attorney Paula Silsby says the charges against DaSilva carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison on each of nine counts.
