PHOENIX - Recruiters call a potential Marine the perfect candidate, except for one thing: he's an illegal immigrant.
Now Pedro Gutierrez is facing deportation after a traffic stop.
He was brought to the U.S. illegally when he was 7 years old. Life in the U.S. is all he knows.
At a news conference on Friday, the Dream Act coalition asked Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hold off on deporting this potential Marine.
"It's been my dream to join the Marines. I've actually talked to some recruits and all that and they've told me I'm the perfect candidate, except I have no papers," said Gutierrez. "This is all I know..if I go back, I don't know what I'd do."
Gutierrez is scheduled for deportation Tuesday under federal immigration law.
