Austin: Candidates field questions at immigration forum
Candidates field questions at immigration forum
CBS 42 Reporter: Rebecca Taylor
Last Update: 10:22 pm
A half-dozen city council hopefuls and mayoral candidates fielded questions about immigration and workers rights at a voter forum Sunday night.
The Workers Defense Project sponsored the forum at a South Austin church.
Scores of voters packed pews for the forum, which was conducted in both English and Spanish.
Many at the forum say they want Austin to maintain it’s status as a sanctuary city.
And several said they want the city to establish a labor standards commission to enforce fair wages.
Election day is May 9, but some who came say they haven’t yet made up their minds.
