The Border Patrol is putting 209 more agents along the Arizona border to help with the search and rescue of illegal immigrants in the desert.
Operation Guardian begins Tuesday and continues through September, according to a press release from the Border Patrol.
The operation complements Operation Desert Shield, which began June 1, and sent 20 additional Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) agents to the Tucson Sector, which includes most of the Arizona border.
As of July 31, Operation Desert Shield had yielded 1,333 apprehensions, 199 rescues and 92 medical calls. The operation is also responsible for seizing 9,765 pounds of marijuana, 1 pound of cocaine and recovering 17 bodies, according to the release. Operation Desert Shield is also scheduled to continue through the end of September.

Hmmm........you would think they could come up with a name that hadn't previously been used for a military operation."The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ** Edmund Burke**

So our Border Patrol agents are now "guardians" (Operation Guardian) who are helping with search and "rescue" of illegal aliens? I'm really curious as to what they did with the 1,333 aliens who were "apprehended" and the 199 who were "rescued"? Probably just apprehended and released, right onto American soil. The Obama Admin is now only deporting illegals who have committed "serious" crimes, and according to them illegally invading our borders doesn't count as serious. This sure doesn't sound like law enforcement to me. More defacto amnesty actions?

Your tax dollars at work, they sure can find more excuses to use our money so they don't have any left for arresting and deporting illegal border crossers....

I think you guys are selling our Border Patrol agents short here. Can you think of a better way to get what's her name to allow more agents on the ground than a humanitarian cause? How can she say no to this? Look at all the people and drugs they caught last time.
Technically speaking any BP agent is quaified for SAR, they know how to track and find people, they all are trained in first aid and they have radio's to call in help when needed. This is more than some SAR team members I have seen elsewhere.

Operation Guardian will Bolster Efforts
(Monday, August 03, 2009)
Tucson, Ariz. – The U.S. Border Patrol will provide 209 more Border Patrol agents from across the country to address the deaths in the desert.
Operation Guardian will deploy 209 Border Patrol agents from across the country to the Tucson Sector to assist with the Border Patrol’s operational efforts. Chief Patrol Agent Robert W. Gilbert noted, “Operation Guardian will detail manpower and equipment that will assist the Tucson Sector in securing the border. It has the added benefit of allowing us to dedicate more resources to search and rescue efforts.â€NO AMNESTY

Why don't they just call them search and rescue, instead of agents and border patrol.
While you're at it Janet, why don't you make them wear dresses and pretty pink bows on their handcuffs?
This is like pulling all of the teeth out of your guard dog's mouth.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Why not call up the National Guard to do this duty? They are trained for this line of work and the BP can go on and continue deporting illegal aliens and guarding the border, instead of being diverted away from the real job at hand.
