Bill requiring schools to count undocumented students advances

Schools will be required to identify and count students who are in the country illegally under a bill that the Senate passed on March 31.

S1097, which is sponsored by Sen. Russell Pearce, a Mesa Republican, also requires the Department of Education to determine the cost of educating students who cannot prove lawful residence in the state and to research the “adverse impactâ€

To try to make this correlation is a pretty wide stretch; some might find it almost insane.

Senate Minority Leader Jorge Garcia earlier unsuccessfully offered a floor amendment that would have made it any response by pupils or parents to questions about students’ immigration status voluntary.

Naturally.... Who voted this guy into office?

I wish Sen. Russell Pearce would move to California.

He sounds like the type of politician we need.

I suspect the number of illegal alien kids in our schools is not as high as people think. Most of the children belonging to illegals were born here on the taxpayer's dime and unfortunately, aren't considered illegal.

i'm relieved. i'll be sure to keep that in mind next time i pull out of the driveway and drive past phalanxes of Hispanic school children.
