Charlotte Sets Aside $100K For Those Affected By Big Immigration Sting, Spends $0

$100K set aside to help families affected by ‘Operation Charlotte’s Web,’ but where did the money go?
When federal immigration agents descended on Charlotte last November, the city set up a fund to help families in need.
They committed $100,000 to give out to people who were struggling with bills, rent and utilities because of Operation Charlotte’s Web.
WBTV has learned that money was never given out and was eventually moved to other housing initiatives in the city.
The City of Charlotte pledged $100,000 to households directly impacted by the operation.
Jamilah Espinosa, the Board Chair of the Latin American Coalition, tried to help people get the money they needed.
“We would receive families and then feed that information to Crisis Assistance, determine that these families were likely eligible or had been affected during that period of time, and then they were the lead agency that would screen,” Espinosa said.

In order to receive any money a person had to be a resident of Charlotte, a valid photo ID, and some other things. Oh, and a valid social security number, which an illegal wouldn’t have. Whoops!
