AZ: Bill would expand MCSO policies toward illegal immigrant

Bill would expand MCSO policies toward illegal immigrants statewide
Phoenix Business Journal - by Mike Sunnucks

A bill before the Arizona Legislature would expand a controversial immigration enforcement program in use by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio statewide.

Republicans in the Legislature want to pass HB2384, which would allow 287(g) agreements that allow local police to enforce federal immigration laws throughout the state.

Arpaio has used 287(g) agreements with the federal government to train MCSO deputies and to arrest illegal immigrants during crime sweeps and other arrests. The Obama adminstration in 2008 scaled back its 287(g) policies so the MCSO can arrest illegal immigrants only when they are booked into county jails. Arpaio has continued to arrest illegals under state immigration laws.

The bill would bar city governments and county boards from blocking local police departments from attempting to have those agreements with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. The accords allow local police to be trained to enforce immigration laws and to detain and arrest undocumented migrants, smuggles and drug traffickers on those charges.

Several other law enforcement agencies in Arizona have 287(g) training and enforcement with the federal government but have not taken the same aggressive approach to it as the MCSO.

The bill would clear the way for all local police in the state to enforce federal immigration laws. Former governor Janet Napolitano, the current U.S. Homeland Security secretary, did not like the idea of expanding 287(g). Some local police officials worry about the cost of training and enforcing federal laws as well as whether it will distract from other cases.

Arpaio argues enforciing immigration laws allows the MCSO to pick up drug traffickers, gun runners, smugglers and gang members in the U.S. illegally.

This is the best thing they could do to help the lives of legal immigrants and citizens in Arizona, who are undoubtedly watching the destruction of their neighborhoods at the hands of gang-bangers and smugglers.
There is no reason we should feel helpless in our own country due to an invading army of evil-doers, while law enforcement finds enforcement not politically correct toward foreigners.

Exactly! GO ARIZONA! GO SHERIFF JOE! WAKE UP states, counties and municipal police organizations! You have the right under our Constitution and USC Title VIII, Chapter 12 Section 1324 to arrest illegal aliens and all those who aid, abet, hire, smuggle and harbor them.

Get busy! Do the Job the Feds Won't Do!! America will love you and reward you a 1000 times over if you help us remove illegal aliens from the United States.

Just Do It. The law is at your side and the people of the United States have got your back.
