Border Patrol agent pelted by rocks near Douglas

    by Associated Press

DOUGLAS, Ariz. - A U.S. Border Patrol agent required medical treatment after he was pelted with rocks while trying to arrest five illegal immigrants near Douglas.

The Border Patrol says as the agent sustained a 5-inch cut on his head Sunday night when he was showered with rocks thrown over the fence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The illegal immigrants he was trying to arrest, says the patrol, fled back into Mexico.

The agent was airlifted to a Tucson hospital, where he was treated and released.

The Border Patrol's Tucson Sector says there have been 201 assaults on its agents since Oct. 1, the start of the agency's budget year.

The sector encompasses all of Arizona except the southwestern corner of the state.

These poor people put their life in jeopardy every day and this government sits on it's hands doing nothing. Makes me mad.

Crazybird, exactly WHICH government is doing nothing? I hope you were referring to the Mexican government, because the U.S. government has been bending over backwards to provide a better standard of living for illegals than I get, and I was born here!

The U.S. government doesn't need to do anything to help Mexico become a better nation. We've tried. We've provided millions of dollars in aid to help their economy, in an effort to keep them little brown scrugs from jumpng our borders and it was to no avail.

The Mexican government doesn't even want to help it's own people, so we should? I don't think so. I think we've done more than enough, that's why there are so many of them here already.

And don't forget this President, with all his experience as a one-term guv of Texas dealing with international politics, plans to send $1.4 billion to Mexico as aid to help fight the drug battle. It ain't "federal money," it is more of our taxpayer dollars going to waste.

Border agent hit by rock sent to Tucson hospital

A U.S. Border Patrol agent was flown to a Tucson hospital Sunday night from Douglas after a rock thrown from Mexico struck him in the head.
At 8:45 p.m., the agent spotted four illegal immigrants hop over the fence east of the Douglas port of entry, said Rob Daniels, Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman. He began chasing them by foot and they headed back south toward Mexico.
During the chase, people on the other side of the fence in Mexico began throwing rocks toward the agent, Daniels said. One struck him in the head, opening a large cut.
Paramedics in Douglas determined he needed to be flown by helicopter to University Medical Center, he said. At the hospital, they put staples in his head to close the laceration and released him later in the evening.
He is now okay, Daniels said. Rockings occur frequently in urban areas such as Douglas, Nogales and Naco where large fences mark the international border, he said. When they hit in the head, it becomes serious.

A border patrol agent is recovering after being wounded on the job.

Some illegal immigrants pelted the agent with rocks when he tried to arrest them near Douglas Sunday night.

He got a five-inch gash on his head, and had to be airlifted to a Tucson hospital.

Doctors put several staples on the wound and released him.

The illegal immigrants ran back into Mexico.

The Border Patrol says there have been more than 200 assaults on agents in the Tucson sector since October first.

That's six percent more than the last fiscal year.

I would say the Border patrol should begin throwing the rocks back at the illegals but that would only give the illegals more to throw back at us. Why not just start lobbing tear gas canisters over the fence? Let's see how much the illegals want to stand within throwing distance of the border then.
