El Mirage police said they have arrested a 23-year-old man in the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.

El Mirage Elementary School leaders called police Wednesday after the girl told a school official that a man she had known for about a year had sexually assaulted her, according to El Mirage police Assistant Chief Will Louis.

A forensic interview confirmed the girl's allegations. On Friday, detectives arrested 23-year-old Adrian Ramirez at his place of employment, a Furr's cafeteria in Surprise. Louis said Ramirez admitted to having sex with the girl.

Ramirez faces charges of sexual conduct with a minor and molestation of a child. In addition, Louis said Ramirez was found to be in the U.S. illegally, and he was placed on an immigration hold.
