An Eloy man was sentenced to seven years in prison and three years of supervised release after hiding undocumented immigrants and leading police on a chase on Interstate 10 last year, according to a press release from the United States Attorney's office.

Juan Alfredo Perez, 31, was sentenced April 2. A federal jury found him guilty last year.

According to the release, Border Patrol agents arrested Perez in October 2006 for driving a truck loaded with eight undocumented immigrants. He drove away when agents attempted to make contact with him, according to the press release.

Perez drove approximately 85 miles to escape the agents and even tried to run some agents off the road, the release said.

Perez ran away and led one Border Patrol agent on a chase through barbed-wire fences and morning traffic on Interstate 10. Perez was finally found in a storage yard, according to the press release.
