Maricopa County Sherriff candidate Dan Saban spoke out against Sheriff Joe Arpaio's crime fighting tactics, saying the sheriff has unfinished business he continually ignores, including 40,000 outstanding warrants.

"Is the current sheriff really tough?," he asked. "Would a tough sheriff really rather pursue day laborers than bring in murderers and rapists to justice? Would a tough sheriff really rather spend our limited resources on immigration sweeps when so many felons wander our streets?"

Saban said Arpaio is not doing his job and has put the public's safety at risk by spending millions of tax dollars on publicity-seeking "crime sweeps."

Saban said he has a plan to change the way the sheriff's office does business; he unveiled his ‘Falcon Initiative' Tuesday, which, he said is a proactive, collaborative approach to tackle the outstanding warrants problem.

He said he'll make it a priority to keep career criminals, including dangerous illegal immigrants, off the streets, and said he can make this happen by cooperating with other law enforcement agencies.
