PHOENIX — Dozens of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's jail officers lined up at a news conference in Phoenix Wednesday to ceremoniously hand in their federal credentials a week after they were stripped of the ability to verify the immigration status of inmates.

Arpaio spoke at the same news conference, saying he's going to hold the federal government to its promise to send 50 federal agents to do such screening in his jail. But he predicted there will be illegal immigrants in jail who won't be deported and will be put back on streets.

"I want to see how many agents are going to be coming to our jail," the sheriff said. "I want to see how long it will take for 50 agents from across the country to work in our jails."

The Department of Homeland Security announced Dec. 15 that more than 90 of Arpaio's Maricopa County jail officers could no longer check whether inmates were in the county illegally.

The decision followed the release of a scathing Department of Justice report that said Arpaio's office has a pattern of racially profiling Latinos, basing immigration enforcement on racially charged citizen complaints and punishing Hispanic jail inmates for speaking Spanish. The sheriff has denied the allegations.

Homeland Security officials had no immediate comment on Arpaio's comments on Wednesday.

On Monday, the agency said in a letter to U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl that it would send immigration agents to screen jail inmates in Arizona's most populous county. Arpaio's aides say only one Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer has worked at the county jails since last week.

Homeland Security's decision wasn't the first time Arpaio's federal immigration powers were cut.
In October 2009, Immigration and Customs Enforcement stripped Arpaio of his power to let 100 deputies make federal immigration arrests, but still allowed his jail officers to determine the immigration status of people in jail.

The people here passed these laws, WE elected those sworn to uphold them. No force is big enough to take away our protection under law.
We'll just see about this Obama, Holder, Napolitano..Your days as a traitorous, racist, regime are numbered.

PHOENIX - Last week, the federal government stripped Sheriff Joe Arpaio of his authority to enforce immigration laws in his jails.

Wednesday, the sheriff's deputies who were trained by ICE to screen inmates turned in their ICE badges.
Arpaio says what ICE now has in place at his jails is nothing compared to the presence of his own deputies -- and now, some suspected illegal immigrants could slip through the cracks.

"We're probably the most trained law enforcement agency in the United States. Who else goes through 5 weeks of training with Homeland Security? Yet they say we don't know what we are doing," Sheriff Arpaio said.

Nearly 100 ICE-trained deputies checked the immigration status of inmates at their jails. In place of all those deputies, the feds pledged to have 50 ICE agents in place at the jails. So far, they've only sent one.

"I'm going to keep tabs to see what year, or what century, those 50 agents take to replace our dedicated officers."

The sheriff says the holds placed on suspected illegals have decreased dramatically since his authority was stripped.

"Common sense and good management would be, ok sheriff we're going to take away your authority, but please keep doing it until we get our 50 officers to take over. No, they kicked us out. Putting public safety at risk," said Arpaio.

The sheriff said when his deputies were running the show, they put holds on an average of 15.5 suspected illegal immigrants a day. Since ICE took over last week, they've only placed holds on 3 people.

The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to our request for a statement.

These rogue, disestablishment courts can be prosecuted for sedition against the U.S. Constitution, if they can be proven to be overthrowing Art. iv, § 4, by disempowering the "protect against invasion" clause apart from the Constitutional amendment process.

We have a government working against us, and for the illegal aliens and other nations.

PHOENIX - Ninety-two Maricopa County jail officers turned in their ICE badges on Wednesday afternoon in front of Sheriff Joe Arpaio during a news conference.

The badges allowed the officers to check an inmate's immigration status. That power was revoked last week after the Department of Justice stated the sheriff's office violated civil rights of Latinos.

"It's an insult," Arpaio said.

Currently, only one federal agent is doing the checks, he told reporters.

The Department of Homeland Security has reportedly said it will send 50 agents to do the work, but Arpaio says he has not heard anything from federal officials.

When jail officers were checking inmates' status, an average of 15 illegal immigrants were found daily, Arpaio said.

Under the one federal agent, only one illegal immigrant has been found so far.

Of course you are and rightly so. I think we have problems in our state but they are nothing compared to what you have to contend with in Arizona, the largest gateway for illegal aliens in the whole country.
