BALTIMORE -- The Baltimore and Washington metropolitan areas are first and second in the nation in household income for Hispanics.

According to Census Bureau statistics, the median income for Hispanics living in the Baltimore region last year was more than $60,100.

Hispanics in Washington and its suburbs had a median income just under $59,000.

Critics said the numbers could be deceiving. The head of the Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Jorge Ribas, said that if earnings by undocumented illegal immigrants were included in the Census figures, the median income would drop significantly.
