Ten illegal immigrants killed in car chase

Ten illegal immigrants from Myanmar were killed in the North when their pick-up truck crashed into an empty oil tanker following a police chase late on Friday night, according to Thai television reports.

The truck was chased by a police car when it sped through a check point on the winding mountain road between Tak and Mae Sot, near Thailand's western border with Myanmar.

The driver of the pick-up, Wutthinan Raknathithong, 22, died after the crash that happened at 11.45 p.m. Five others were severely injured.

The pick up ran head-on into the tanker which was speeding down a hill, according to reporters. The police car also ran off the road, but was only slightly damaged.

Some experts contend that Thailand contains a million, mostly illegal, workers supplied by its poverty-stricken neighbour, who eke out a living doing mostly dirty, badly paid or uncomfortable work.

The Thai police have a reputation for cracking down on the flow of immigrants when the political mood is against them. At other times human rights workers claim that many policeman cooperate with human traffickers or shake down any immigrants they catch for their earnings before ejecting them.

It's not just us having this problem. Many countries are dealing with the issue of illegal immigration. France really has a mess on their hands.

spain is close to bankrupty and part of the problem is it giving amnesty to mass numbers of illegals believing that it is going to solve their illegal immigration problems. It didn't and now they have asked the EU for assistance and have been told that they need to fix their own problems. I am really surprise that they haven't asked Bush for assistance and border agents. I am sure that Bush would provide them with some of our border agents since it is giving them up for every other purpose he can think of. protecting american and securing the borders is not even Bush considers.
