REP. BURTON'S BID TO BLOCK WELFARE FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ST

REP. BURTON'S BID TO BLOCK WELFARE FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS STYMIED

    US Fed News
    July 11, 2009 Saturday 12:39 PM EST

WASHINGTON, July 8 -- Rep. Dan L. Burton, R-Ind. (5th CD), issued the following news release:

With the House set to consider the 2010 Agriculture, FDA, and Rural Development Appropriations bill this week, Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN) introduced an amendment that would have blocked any attempt to extend food stamp benefits to illegal immigrants.

Late Tuesday evening, the Democrat-controlled Rules Committee blocked the amendment from any consideration.

Rep. Burton issued the following statement after the ruling: "The amendment I submitted to the Rules Committee was a blocking measure to assure the American people that their tax dollars wouldn't be spent on food stamps for illegal immigrants.

At an immigration reform meeting on June 25th, President Obama made it crystal clear that amnesty remains a top priority for his administration.

Given the track record of radicalism we have seen over the last 6 months, it just makes sense to try to be ahead of the curve and thwart any attempts at extending welfare to illegal immigrants.

The Democrats on the Rules Committee quickly sidelined my amendment, which could be a discouraging indicator of things to come."

Background: Text of the Burton Amendment to HR 2997, the Agriculture Appropriations bill: None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available by this Act may be used to provide benefits under the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (the former food stamp program) to an individual who is ineligible to receive such benefits.

We must all vote Rep. to get our country back.

Now is the time for every American to push back! How dare Obama and the Dems block an Amnedment that would stop illegals from getting welfare and Social Services.

Stupid Dems, even if they manage to give the illegals Amnesty, the illegals will vote them in but the American people will vote them out of office!

No kidding! One would think illegal invaders would already be denied welfare in this country. I bet an illegal invader has no problems establishing they meet criteria for welfare. They just walk into the office, claim they have no verifiable income, don't speak English, show a few pictures of their anchor babies and the checks start rolling in.

Meanwhile an American citizen who has lost his/her job are denied benefits because they have a little left in their savings, or own an automobile or have a few dollars saved in a retirement account. They cannot get any help to tide them over until things get better. They are SOL!

Mind you, the illegal usually has plenty of cash( even enough to wire a little back home every month), but since its all under the table and non-verifiable, they get their welfare.

Your absolutly right NoBueno and how many times have we read stories about IA's who send large amounts of money to their home countries and are building homes there while US Citizens are losing their homes and still cannot get any help.

The Dems are sooo empathetic to IA's while ignoring the growing needs of US Citizens.

How can they be so Heartless towards people who pay their salary and they swore to protect ????

Well the Democrats may have a rude awakening...remember that most of the people they want to give amnesty to can not even read and right, they won't now or never have gotten politically involved even in their own country ( hense...no changes in their home country) once they themselves get amnesty they aren't going to give a rats patootie about anyone else, no less get invovled in politics.

Most don't even have the fortitude to learn to read, write or even speak English! and crossing the border illegally does not qualifiy any one as having fortitude, it only says they have no respect for the law!

Arizona passed a law several years ago to do this and Janet didn't enforce it. Then when our budget got out of hand the local news was saying the bill was never adhered to. Amazing amount of money is spend feeding, housing, educating and healing illegals. Hard to swallow when you have the working poor in the inner city that can't get ahead WHO ARE AMERICAN CITIZENS!
