Henderson, Nevada - Illegal immigrants stole $4.2 billion from the IRS in 2010. They stole even more last year, and they’ll do it again this year unless Americans can convince the U.S. Senate to act.
Here’s what’s happening. Illegal immigrants are signing up for an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN). They can’t get a Social Security card like a legal immigrant, but our federal government has been helpfully providing them with the ITIN instead. Surprisingly, many illegals are in fact signing up for a number. And now we know the reason why.
If a person files taxes with an ITIN, they can claim child tax credits and other refunds on their returns. What government accountants have discovered is that some illegal aliens are claiming their children back in Mexico as dependents. Some of them are even claiming their nieces and nephews as their dependents, and raking in close to $10,000 in refunds and tax credits.
$4.2 billion in tax credits and refunds went to illegal immigrants with an ITIN in 2010. And now one Senator has blocked legislation to close the loophole. You can read more about the issue in the Beat Obama Committee's article entitled, Illegal Immigrants Stealing Billions through Tax Loophole.

You’ve got to hand it to illegal aliens; they really know how to milk the system. Whether it involves assuming the identity of a dead person so they can vote for Barack Obama, or robbing your tax dollars directly from the IRS, they’re on top of things. Fortunately, we’re very close to closing an important tax loophole. The question that remains now is whether or not the do-nothing Senate under Harry Reid can be pressured to take action.
Illegal immigrants stole $4.2 billion from the IRS in 2010. They stole even more last year, and they’ll do it again this year unless we act.
So the Child Tax Credit that is supposed to be helping out American families is in fact going to the children of illegal aliens – children that don’t even live here!
The House passed legislation within a larger package to close the loophole. Rep. Sam Johnson (R-TX) introduced an amendment and added it to HR 5652. The title of the amended section reads:
SEC. 611. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER REQUIRED TO CLAIM THE REFUNDABLE PORTION OF THE CHILD TAX CREDIT.
So it does exactly what it says it does, and the House voted to pass HR 5652. The overall bill is a package of spending cuts that the Republican-controlled House came up with in order to avoid making Defense cuts.
Republican Sen. David Vitter introduced legislation to close the $4 billion tax loophole for illegal immigrants, which Harry Reid immediately blocked.
As soon as it passed the House, Senators David Vitter (R-LA) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) introduced the Senate version the week before Memorial Day. The Senate’s obstructionist-in-chief, Harry Reid, promptly blocked the bill from coming to a full vote.
Reid says that the Republicans are attacking the children of poor Hispanics by trying to close this loophole. Some of these children are U.S. citizens, because they were born here after their parents committed the criminal act of sneaking across the U.S. border. La Raza is also opposed to closing the tax loophole, if that’s worth anything.
Barack Obama could have simply closed the loophole himself when it was first brought to his attention during the payroll tax cut debate in December, but like he does with every piece of legislation that sounds sensible and sane, he refused to act.
So after the IRS steals your money through taxation, the federal government turns around and gives it away to people who aren’t even U.S. citizens. Harry Reid is pretty much the only thing standing in the way of this bill right now. With our economy stagnant and the government struggling to pay the bills, the Democrats have to realize that this is a losing issue. If we turn the heat up on them, we just might be able get this tax loophole closed. And if not, Harry Reid and Barack Obama will continue to give more than $4 billion of your tax dollars to illegal aliens each year.
