Biden immigration plan grants citizenship to 11 million illegal immigrants


Says immigration enforcement infected by 'systemic racism'

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden on Wednesday formally embraced citizenship rights for 11 million illegal immigrants and a full erasure of all of President Trump’s get-tough border policies, as part of the party’s new unity platform.


The former vice president would expand sanctuary locations, limit ICE’s ability to deport criminals in local jails, and reverse deportations for some military veterans already ousted because of criminal records.


Perhaps no other issue draws as stark a contrast between Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump as immigration.

The unity platform, developed by backers of Mr. Biden and one-time chief rival Sen. Bernard Sanders, would wipe clean every major immigration policy of the last three and a half years, replacing them with more legal immigration and eliminating the controls that have tamped down on illegal immigration.

The platform calls for an immediate 100-day halt to all deportations, and would unleash an army of overseers to police the way the Border Patrol and ICE’s deportation officers enforce immigration policy. A special eye would be paid toward the “racial underpinnings” of Trump policies.

The plan said “systemic racism” has infected “our immigration system, including the policies at our borders and ports of entry, detention centers and within immigration law enforcement agencies, policies and operations.”

The platform would erase Mr. Trump’s travel ban for countries that don’t cooperate with U.S. authorities, and would invite those denied entry over the last years to reapply.

It would also set a new cap for refugees at 125,000 a year, which would be the highest since the mid-1990s. By contrast Mr. Trump has set a cap of just 18,000 this year.

The biggest-ticket item is a “roadmap to citizenship” for nearly 11 million illegal immigrants. Those who’ve been working illegally in essential services during the coronavirus pandemic would get fast-tracked.

The immigration proposal was one of six areas in the new unity platform. The others are health care, education, the economy, criminal justice and climate change.
Mr. Sanders, in a joint statement with Mr. Biden announcing the platform, called it “a good policy blueprint that will move this country in a much-needed progressive direction and substantially improve the lives of working families throughout our country.”

“While Joe Biden and I, and our supporters, have strong disagreements about some of the most important issues facing our country, we also understand that we must come together in order to defeat Donald Trump, the most dangerous president in modern American history,” Mr. Sanders said.

They already have "citizenship" back in their countries.

"Systemic racism" is sure a new catchy phrase they use now isn't it? Can't believe our country has fallen to this point when so much progress had been done regarding racism. I recall the 60's and so many things that happened but today you wouldn't know any progress was made. I've come to believe the Democrat party wants this issue to remain unresolved so they can use it to keep running on. Same with illegal immigration. When Obama was first elected they had the House and Senate and should have solved the issue then but no, and why? They don't really want to solve these issues imo.
