BEECH ISLAND, S.C. – A body found inside a burned truck in North Augusta back in April has finally been identified.
Just before 4:30 a.m. on April 10th, crews were called out to a single vehicle accident near the intersection of Cherokee Drive and Sunfest Drive. Inside the burning vehicle, responders found the body of 26-year-old Jose Vega-Auguas of Pinal De Amoles, Queretaro, Mexico.

At the time, Vega-Auguas’s body was burned so badly, that it could not be immediately identified. A tentative identification was made at the time, but becuase Vega-Auguas was in the United States illegaly, a positive ID could not be made until contact was made with his next-of-kin. Vega-Auguas’s mother was located in Mexico.

At the time of the accident, it was discovered that Vega-Auguas has a blood alcohol level of .229, nearly three times the legal limit in South Carolina. The body will be released to the Mexican Embassy in North Carolina, as per the family’s request.
