Bogus Poll: San Diegans Have Mixed Views On Immigration

Study: San Diegans Have Mixed Views On Immigration

SAN DIEGO -- While lawmakers in Washington clash over the latest proposal for immigration reform, a new study highlights where San Diegans stand on the issue, NBC 7/39 reported.

Government agencies and pro-immigrant activists of San Diego teamed up to ask 600 voters about illegal immigration.

NBC 7/39 spoke with an immigration lawyer Ginger Jacobs, who said the poll reflects how San Diegans view immigration in general.

"Many San Diegans disapprove illegal immigration as a concept of people breaking the law, but when they look at it pragmatically, they don't think deporting 12 million undocumented (immigrants) is realistic," Jacobs said.

The results of the study show 30 percent of the group agree that overall immigration helps San Diego County more than it hurts San Diego. Fifty percent of the responders strongly agree that undocumented immigrants are mostly good working people and 39 percent of the group said they strongly disapprove of immigration raids in houses or schools.

The poll's margin of error is 4 percent. Usually to know that a poll is credible, it has to be less than 5 percent, and for a national poll, it should have within 400 and 600 respondents, NBC 7/39 reported.

What a crock, they have government agencies (who are fighting to push through the amnesty bill) and pro-illegal alien groups take the poll. I wonder what results that didn't further their case they left out of the story? Even the title of the story says 'immigration', not 'illegal immigration'.

They say 30% agree that 'overall immigration' helps San Diego County more than it hurts, but the word illegal is totally missing from the question, I thought this was a poll about 'illegal' immigration? And if 30% agree, what percentage disagree it helps San Diego? Oh gee, that number is omitted, what a surprise.

They report 39% strongly disapprove with raids in homes and schools (no attempt at inflaming emotions there, with the raiding schools reference. Why not ask people if they approve of raiding pre-schools?), but no mention of the percentage who do approve of the raids.

How does the news get away with using these bogus polls as actual news, yet refuse to ever report when an illegal commits a crime? And being as San Diego has a large legal Hispanic population I wonder how that affected the results or if they asked the questions in Spanish. No doubt they only used the term undocumented immigrants in the wording of the questions. And why the need at the end of the story to go out of their way to justify the results of the poll?
