ESCOBARES, Texas -- U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station seized close to 2,500 pounds of marijuana early Monday morning.
At about 3 a.m., U.S. Border Patrol agents conducting patrol operations south of Los Escobares encountered about 20 men at the river's edge loading a white Chevrolet 2500 pickup with bundles.
As the agents approached, the men boarded an idling motorboat waiting in the river and fled to Mexico, abandoning close to $2 million in marijuana and the truck.
To report suspicious activity, contact the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector's toll-free telephone number at 800-863-9382.
