But critics of the strategy say it has criminalized immigration – traditionally handled by administrative courts – without focusing on employers who hire illegal migrants. Some lawyers call the policy "crimmigration," adding that it has packed the courtrooms and burdened public defenders with more cases.

A multi tiered problem calls for a multi tiered solution.

My big question is why is this solely an issue concerning employers in the minds of the "critics" when employment is not the only magnet for illegal aliens?

They come here in literal droves to deliver their anchor babies, bring in their undocumented children, whom they cannot afford, for us to support, come looking to hook up and marry, or produce, an American citizen believing this will provide them leverage, steal identities to fraudulently collect benefits , obtain credit cards, and loans in their push to obtain money and material possessions. Some are career criminals simply looking to broaden their horizons.

For every last one stopped at the border, as far as I'm concerned, they are stopping one with an ulterior motive which, no matter which it is, or a combination, had that person succeeded, would end up costing American citizens plenty.

    Border arrests

It will take time for everyone to adjust to actual enforcement of the immigration laws. The problem has been ignored for 30 years, it will take at least 5 years for word to spread.

Doing nothing is not an option. Our Federal Government has been doing nothing for decades and look where we are now......

Whether its reach expands depends on the willingness of congressional Democrats to increase the budget for the U.S. Department of Justice, which must prosecute the cases.
That has always been the case. As long as Congress refuses to fund enforcement, there won't be any. The cutting of legislative funds doomed the 1986 IRCA and the 2007 Secure Border Act.

Heres how it works: They vote for enforcement to boost public opinion, then cut the funding later. That's why enforcement-only measures never pass. They need to tie amnesty to it to reap the benefits they seek while pretending to care about enforcement.

    It's really quite simple...
