Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Several Train Jumpers
Border Patrol Agents Apprehend Several Train Jumpers
Release Date: July 23, 2020
LAREDO, Texas – A dangerous trend of train jumping keeps U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Cotulla Station busy as they arrested several individuals in two separate incidents within hours of each other north of Laredo.
The first incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on July 23, when agents observed several individuals on board a northbound freight train near Cotulla, Texas.
The agents contacted the rail service company and requested the train be stopped for inspection just north of Cotulla. Agents initially apprehended three individuals and were able to arrest an additional individual before releasing the train completely.
The individuals were determined to be in the United States illegally from the counties of Guatemala and Mexico.
The second incident occurred approximately three hours later, when several individuals on board a northbound freight train near Cotulla were spotted by agents. The train was stopped for inspection just north of Cotulla.
Agents apprehended two U.S. Citizens and 15 individuals determined to be in the United States illegally from the country of Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.
This dangerous method of illegal entry into the United States by illegal immigrants is strongly discouraged as it often results in serious injury or death. The Laredo Sector Border Patrol continues to warn against the dangers of people crossing illegally into the United States through dangerous and hazardous means.
Despite the ongoing global pandemic, U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Laredo Sector continue to stand at the ready to secure the nation’s borders, prevent the flow of illegal immigration, the exploitation by human smugglers, and the spread of COVID-19.
To report suspicious activity such as alien and/or drug smuggling, download the “USBP Laredo Sector” App or contact the Laredo Sector Border Patrol toll free at 1-800-343-1994.
