TUCSON, Ariz. — Border Patrol agents in the Tucson Sector say 30 illegal immigrants have been rescued from the southern Arizona desert in a 24-hour span.

They say all of the immigrants were suffering from varying states of dehydration after apparently being abandoned by their guides and left with little or no water.

Casa Grande Station agents and the Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue unit rescued the majority of illegal immigrants Monday night.

They say 17 immigrants claimed they had gotten lost after being abandoned by their smuggler.

Eight other illegal immigrants were rescued Monday morning north of Sells and four others were found east of Ajo.

Of the 30 immigrants rescued, only three needed to be taken to a hospital for treatment. The others were taken to Casa Grande for processing.
