Border Patrol Agents Seize $1.6 Million in Cash
(Wednesday, October 14, 2009)
Laredo, Texas – Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents seized $1.6 million near the Rio Grande River.
On Oct. 9, agents responded to reports of suspicious activity at the intersection of two south Laredo streets near the river. During their investigation, the agents observed several subjects unloading black luggage bags from the trunk of a small sedan. When the subjects saw the Border Patrol vehicle approaching they dropped the bags back into the trunk and fled. One of the subjects who attempted to swim the river became distressed and was rescued by the agents.
Agents searched the car and found several cellophane-wrapped bundles of cash in the black bags in the trunk. The bundles contained a total of $1,599,001.
The cash was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol. The subject and vehicle were turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
