Mr. Hill wants to put 1.85 miles of fence here, 5 miles there, etc. The smugglers and illegal aliens will simply detour around the segments of fence. Sections of fence leave our flanks unprotected and border agents exposed to a rear attacked iniciated from within the U.S.

I suggest Mr. Hill and members of congress go to Israel and see a real defensive fence. And visit the one in Egypt the American government is aiding funding and sending the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assist in its construction. The Egyptian fence will have sensors alerting the guards if anyone touches the fence.

It would be different if Mexico co-operated with border enforcement and came to the aid of our border patrol or stopped people from attempting to cross the border. Instead, the unarmed Mexican border patrol hands out instruction booklets, water, food and clothing to the illegal aliens crossing the borders. The Mexican border patrol don't even have radios.

Mexico has buildings in close proximity to the border wall in the California area where smuggles can hide, stash illegal drugs and immigrants before attempting to cross. Mexico needs to tear down those buildings from which tunnels can be dug secretly.

Mexico is lax in the extradiction processes when a suspect crosses into Mexico and flat-out refuses to extradict anyone facing the death penalty and some who face life in prison.

With such poor assistance from Mexico, we need a wall the entire length of the border to protect our country, border agents and citizens along with the armed presence of the National Guard at the border.

    Good fences make good neighbors.
