Yuma, Ariz. Border Patrol to host Citizen’s Academy

    (Thursday, August 07, 2008)

Yuma, Ariz. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Border Patrol operations in Yuma, Ariz. will host its fourth Citizen’s Academy beginning September 5.

The Citizen’s Academy is an eight-week program designed to provide Yuma residents with first-hand information about how the Border Patrol operates. The academy will meet every Friday at the Yuma sector headquarters. During the academy, 20 selected applicants will get an inside look at what it is like to be a Border Patrol agent in Yuma and gain insight into the national border security strategy and operational philosophy.

The BP should do mobile classes, just like the mobile units of the Mexican consulate around the country. Either that, or an on-line course, where entry is guaranteed only to legals and US citizens. I would be glad to see my taxpayer dollars going for that instead of money wasted trying our BP agents and giving amnesty to drug dealers, or giving money to Mexico to solve their problems, or rebuilding Iraq while they are running a huge budget surplus. It doesn't matter that I am inland and away from both borders, why is my local grocery store close to non-English speaking?

This sounds really good, getting the public involved is important, we need them supporting and standing up for the men on our border, something our government has neglected to do.
