Border Patrol nabs 27 migrants using spike stripsASSOCIATED PRESS
YUMA - U.S. Border Patrol agents used spike strips to stop two vehicles that had crossed into the county from Mexico early Monday east of San Luis, arresting 27 apparent illegal immigrants, officials said.
A Ford pickup and a Jeep Cherokee were observed crossing the border about 4 a.m., and agents used the devices to try to stop them, flattening three tires on each vehicle, agents said. Both continued to drive until they became disabled, and the arrests were made. The drivers ran away and eluded authorities.
Agents in the Border Patrol's Yuma sector have arrested 9,320 illegal immigrants and seized 78 vehicles in the first three months of the current fiscal year that began Oct. 1.
