Another disguised vehicle nabbed by Border Patrol

SAN DIEGO – Three days ago, it was a drug-smuggling attempt in the backcountry using a sedan disguised as a utility company car. This time, it was a pickup in San Ysidro, made to look like a construction-company truck in an attempt to smuggle immigrants into the United States from Mexico.
Sedan disguised as SDG&E vehicle can't fool Border Patrol

Different vehicle, different cargo, different guise, same result – busted by Border Patrol agents.

The pickup had been made up to look like a truck from the Kiewitt Corporation, a construction firm currently working on a large project near the border, a Border Patrol spokesman said.

The masquerade extended to the pickup's driver, who was wearing a yellow hard hat and a reflective orange safety vest, the spokesman said.

Border Patrol agents grew suspicious, however, when they saw the truck park briefly in a secluded spot along the border fence. When a radio check revealed that the pickup belonged not to Kiewitt, but to a private resident of San Diego, they decided to stop the vehicle.

Seeing the agents, the truck driver sped off down Dairy Mart Road, but agents stopped the pickup near Interstate 5 with the help of a spike strip, the spokesman said. The driver was arrested.

A check of the vehicle found one illegal immigrant in the cab and 10 more in the truck bed, crammed into a false toolbox, the spokesman said.

This comes three days after a woman was caught by Border Patrol agents near Campo trying to smuggle 223 pounds of marijuana across the border in a Ford Taurus made to look like a car from San Diego Gas & Electric.

Border Patrol Arrests Illegal Aliens in Fake Construction Vehicle

August 16, 2008 - San Diego - Border Patrol agents in San Ysidro uncovered an alien smuggling scheme that involved a pickup truck replicated to appear to be from a major construction company.

The pickup truck was disguised as a vehicle from Kiewit Corporation, a company currently working on a large border construction project.
Upon spotting the truck on Dairy Mart Road at about noon, agents observed it as it arrived at a secluded spot along the border fence and parked for a brief period. A license plate check of the truck revealed that its registered owner was a San Diego resident, and not Kiewit Corporation.

As agents attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, it sped away on Dairy Mart Road. Agents then successfully deployed a controlled tire deflation device nearby the Interstate 5 onramp.

When the truck came to a stop, the driver, who was wearing a yellow hard hat and a reflective safety vest, fled on foot. An agent was able to apprehend the driver, who is now facing charges for alien smuggling.

Agents inspected the truck and found one illegal alien in the cab and 10 illegal aliens hidden in a false tool box in the bed of the truck.

This incident comes three days after agents prevented a drug smuggling attempt by the use of a false San Diego Gas & Electric vehicle and three weeks after agents discovered 49 illegal aliens in a water truck near Smuggler’s Gulch. In response to effective border security efforts, smugglers are resorting to more sophisticated and dangerous methods to smuggle humans, drugs and other contraband.

    **** the border wall

I've spent more time at the border than all of you combined (aside from BP agents) I am not pro-immigrant-- I think the US needs to stop all immigration given our population of 300 million I actually respect the BP agents overall (many are scumbags, but most are comitted). But incursions such as this or the water truck can only be blamed on the BP. The area is wide open--they should have spotted the activity, and stopped it. Makes me think that they were instructed to allow the crossings to gain support for the triple fence. If you dont know it, fence construction is being directed by private contractors, without reguards to property rights. here in San Diego, a landholder was paid $1000 per acre for beach front property. thats 14 acres for $14K. BULLSHIT

    ========================================

The water truck and the work truck did not cross the border. They were in the U.S. all along. The illegal aliens crossed the border and got in the trucks. Vehicles can not cross the border in this area. There are fences. The aliens climbed the fences and got in the trucks.

The beach area in San Diego is a public park. There is no private property at the border on the beach.
