Border Patrol Says Mission Is Commonly Used Smuggling Route

MISSION - During the last 14 days, at least three men have turned up dead in Mission. The Border Patrol calls the area a commonly used smuggling route.
In addition to the man whose body was found Thursday, another man drowned after jumping into the Mission canal near Conway, and 10 days ago, the body of Abelino Farias was discovered.
It is an area roughly bordered by Conway Road on the east, Military Highway to the south, a canal and a hike and bike trail on the west and Highway 83 on the north. Once someone crosses the freeway, they're about a half a mile from downtown Mission.
From atop the road next to the canal, it's almost like a jungle canopy, several square miles of brush. It’s easy to see why smugglers and coyotes use this route.
A family lives at the northern edge of it all. They say they see illegal immigrants pass through their property two or three times a week, sometimes as many as 30 people.
