AJO - U.S. Border Patrol agents at Ajo have seized more than a ton and a half of marijuana in the past 24 hours.

The Border Patrol said Wednesday the 3,100 pounds confiscated in the west desert area was worth nearly $2.5 million.

The agency says the Ajo Border Patrol Station has seen a significant increase in the number of marijuana seizes.

The Border Patrol credits that to additional agents plus new technology and specialty units such as the station's horse patrol.

Ajo is part of the Border Patrol's Tucson Sector.

Agents in that sector seized more than 270,000 pounds of marijuana in the October through December period.

That compares to about 230,000 pounds in the same period the previous year.
