Border Patrol seizes more than $5 million in marijuana

EDINBURG - U.S. Border Patrol announced the seizure of more than $5 million in marijuana, or more than 6,000 pounds, in several seizures over two days.

One of the significant seizures was reported Thursday night in La Joya when agents patrolling the river spotted men loading a white minivan with several bundles. When the men spotted the agents, they hopped into a motorized boat and left toward Mexico. Inside the van, agents found 680 pounds of marijuana worth more than $540,000.

Earlier that day, near Havana, agents on patrol found a bag of caltrops and a bundle of marijuana after following a trail of footprints. A Customs and Border Protection helicopter spotted six men nearby. When the agents responded to the area, they found 350 pounds of marijuana and arrested two men.
