SAN DIEGO — Fifteen people suspected of trying to enter the county illegally by boat were arrested early Tuesday in Sunset Cliffs.

Border patrol agents spotted the group about 2 a.m. getting off the panga which then sped off south, Border Patrol Agent Steven Pitts said.

Five women and ten men, all Mexican nationals, were taken into custody and will be processed for deportation, Pitts said.

A Customs and Border Protection helicopter scoured the area for the panga but it was not located, the agent said.
