They have become very brazen!! "

I am so glad I was going Southbound when I passed this incident. At least we were doing 20 MPH!"

Man hit and killed fleeing Border Patrol on busy freeway

    By: Associated Press -
    February 9, 2007

ALPINE -- A man was struck and killed as he tried to flee Border Patrol agents by running across a busy freeway, authorities said.

The man, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, died at the scene after being struck by a sport utility vehicle that was going about 70 mph in the fast lane.

The California Highway Patrol said the man was pulled over by a Border Patrol agent just before 10:30 p.m. on Interstate 8 in a rural area east of San Diego. The highway is the main east-west artery running parallel to the U.S.-Mexico border.

The driver and several passengers got out of the van and ran away as the agent got out of his vehicle, according to CHP Officer Brian Pennings.

The agent chased the driver, who left the shoulder and tried to dart across several lanes of traffic before being struck.

None of the occupants of the SUV was hurt in the accident.

The freeway was shut down for nearly two hours after the fatal crash. The CHP said it is investigating the collision.
