PHOENIX - Friday will be exactly one year since SB 1070 took effect, but the most controversial provisions of the law were blocked by a federal judge.

That is why on Thursday morning, Gov. Jan Brewer will be in court to challenge the federal government's case against the law.

U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton blocked most of the key provisions of the controversial law from going into effect.

Those include requiring police to check the legal status of drivers who are stopped or arrested.

The U.S. Justice department filed a lawsuit against Arizona claiming it was the federal government's duty to regulate immigration.

But this past February, the state filed a counter-suit, saying the government was not doing enough to secure our borders.

That counter-suit continues this morning. The hearing starts at 10 a.m.

It's not known if Brewer will speak at the hearing at the Sandra Day O'Connor Courthouse in downtown Phoenix.
