Norwalk Police arrested a Brooklyn man after he allegedly transported a woman from Arizona to Norwalk and held her against her will.

Police officials said Jesus Rojas, 21, was part of a deal to deliver a woman from Arizona, who is an illegal alien from Mexico, to her daughter's home on Soundview Avenue for $550. Rojas was paid $100 up front and would get the remaining money upon delivery of the woman to Norwalk, police said.

According to police, Rojas pulled into the driveway of the woman's daughter on Soundview Avenue last week, but then turned around and left. The Norwalk resident then called police.

Police officials said that Rojas returned to Norwalk on Monday after keeping the woman in Brooklyn for two days. He was arrested and charged with unlawful restraint (1st degree), forgery (2nd degree), and criminal impersonation. Bond was set for $100,000.

Norwalk police arrest possible illegal immigrant smuggler

By STEVE KOBAK Hour Staff Writer

    November 15, 2011

NORWALK -- Norwalk Police may have uncovered an illegal immigrant smuggling operation during the arrest of a Mexican gang member who held an immigrant against her will on Monday, court documents indicate.

Police arrested 21-year-old Jesus Rojas, a Mexican national whose last known address is 158 Wyckoff St., Brooklyn, N.Y., on charges of unlawful restraint, forgery and criminal impersonation. His case was refered to a federal U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, and the federal agency is currently holding him on a detainer due to possible immigration violations, according to police.

During a bond hearing Tuesday at Norwalk Superior Court, State's Attorney Nichol Peco said the defendant will likely face more state charges, but she does not know if the case has been referred to a federal agency other than I.C.E.

Police were alerted to a possible hostage situation involving Rojas on Monday at 5:43 p.m. on Soundview Avenue. The complainant said she paid a man to transport her mother from Arizona to Norwalk, and the man was refusing to let her mother out of the vehicle, according to police.

The complainant told police that a car containing her mother had driven by the Soundview Avenue home at least twice, police said.

When an officer arrived on scene, he immediately spotted a van with Arizona plates and stopped the vehicle, police said. The woman inside of the vehicle was scared, and police eventually learned that she was being held against her will, according to police.

Rojas told police that a man -- whose name was . . .

not revealed -- had hired him to take a group of illegal immigrants from Arizona to various states in the South and the East Coast, including Alabama and Pennsylvania, police said. He said the complainant paid him $550 to take her mother to Norwalk, and he had stopped in New York City due to fatigue, police said.

The man who hired Rojas told him to demand an extra $200 for transporting the complainant's mother from Brooklyn to Norwalk, police said. Rojas was told not to let the complainant's mother out of the vehicle until he received the money, according to police.

The complainant's mother gave Rojas $100 in Mexican currency, but he still would not let her out of the vehicle until the full amount was received, police said.

Police performed a background check on Rojas by sending his fingerprints to two databases maintained by federal law enforcement agencies and found out that Rojas had five aliases and an extensive criminal record in the United States, according to police reports.

Investigators also discovered that Rojas had misidentified himself when signing police documents, police said.

Police seized evidence from Rojas' vehicle that is believed to be indicative of human trafficking, police reports state. Among the seized items were a notebook that had a series of dates and numbers inside of it, a cell phone containing the contact information of at least one man involved in the transportation of the illegal immigrants and a GPS unit, court documents show.

Rojas also had $2,411 in United States currency and . . .

$500 in Mexican pesos on him, court documents show.

While photographing Rojas, officers noticed that he had a variety of tattoos that appeared to be gang-related, including the phrase "Gangster 26," police said.

After performing further research on the tattoo, police learned that Gangster 26 is a Chicago-based Mexican gang that has ties to Folk Nation, one of the largest criminal organizations in the United States, according to police.

I sincerely hope the woman was arrested for smuggling also, she PAID him to bring her mama here. Mama should be deported poste haste. If the daughter is here illegally, she should also be deported after serving her sentence!
