The problem with CAFTA is in chapter 11 where it will not only lead to more jobs going elswhere, but CAFTA will allow for more importation of cheap foreigh labor.

CAFTA will also further errode our ability to enforce our immigration laws. CAFTA is not just about lost jobs to other nations. It is about lost jobs to more foreign labor brought to American soil.

Vicente--you asked what do we want to delay free trade or what else?

Vicente, how do you see Free Trade Agreements helping Colombia when all its means is American Corporations taking over your farms; taking over your industries; taking over your banking; your telephone system; your energy system? How does this help Colombia? Colombia can do these things now on its own. Colombia needs to stop its drug trade. Colombia needs to study its country. Study its resources. People who really care about your people and your nation who have expertise in economic development need to arrive at a plan for your new development. The United States will buy things from Colombia. We always have. Colombians are a very intelligent and capable people. They need to direct that intelligence into developing "new ideas"; making "new things"; "new technologies". Free Trade with the United States just places you in competition with giants that will swallow you up and weaken the US at the same time.

Free Trade is only about the "cost of the item" which only benefits the American Corporations and does nothing for the people of either nation. All it does is reduce the "cost" of the item. Colombia is a friendly nation. We wish more could be done to stop the drug trade. We wish all nations the best of success. But the CAFTA and Free Trade Agreement of the Americas FTAA are not the answer.

Countries that are stuggling or who wish to do better economically need to form committees and analyze their situation. Make lists of what makes us Unique. What makes us Special. What can we offer the world markets that no one else has. There are more things there than you are utilizing. There are more resources there than are being utilized. There are hidden and untapped resources within Colombia......you need to fine them; develop them; and then market them.

Tea and wines are excellent ideas as these are growing markets and not all countries can grow good tea and wine. But there is more; underneath the surface. Colombians need to look within instead of looking out; find what you have that is unique to Colombia...there are many things. Now is the time for Colombians to seek and then find their own way to the future.

Find those things and Americans will buy them. Other countries will buy them. It could be a skill, a technique, a mineral, a tourism, an idea, an invention, a procedure. It could be a plant, a soil condition, a green space.

The Future of Colombia rests in Colombia. When you find your secrets and untapped resources, then the entire World will support you, including the American People and help Colombia make its dreams reality.

There are no Dreams in the CAFTA and FTAA. They are only about "costs". "Costs" aren't dreams, they don't build futures, and they don't improve people's lives.....anywhere.

May I suggest an area of focus: Alternative Energy Solutions.

This is an area where America has dropped the ball entirely.

What do you do in sports when one team drops the ball.....another one grabs it and runs to the goal line.

Your future is not in the United States. Your future is within Colombia.

Meet with your scientists; meet with your great minds; learn what they think are possibilities for Colombia in the area of Alternative Energy Solutions. That is the next infinite area of untapped new products. You can patent them; manufacture them; and sell them to the World.

Hemp--Americans outlawed hemp production in the United States. America dropped the ball on this amazing natural fiber. See if you can grow hemp; then arrive at useful products you can make from hemp; then manufacture them and sell them to the World.

Stop listening to American Globalists; start looking at where America dropped the ball. They have dropped many balls. Pick up those loose balls and develop your own new products that Americans desperately want to see on the market but that American industry fails to produce.

Build new industries American Corporations have failed to take an interest in. There are many loose balls rolling around. Americans will buy these products and within reason pay whatever price supply and demand dictates. So will Europe.

THAT is Free Trade, Vicente. Not 1000 page or 2400 page Treaties to bind the western hemisphere into one big hemispheric government to reduce the cost of a t-shirt, soybean, or cell phone.

THINK BIG; THINK COLOMBIA; THINK ENERGY; THINK NATURAL TEXTILES; THINK DRUG FREE!

BECAUSE THAT is the FUTURE OF COLOMBIA!

Representative Bob Inglis, a South Carolina Republican, said
he is working with U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman to get
three specific changes on Cafta that would ensure that any duty-
free apparel exports from Central America are made with U.S.
fabric, according to a letter he sent to constituents.

will that be the same way Wal-Mart put "Made in the USA" on items made in China?

Big American Agriculture will always defeat us. We ( Colombians ) can only survive in small agricultural niches like coffee, flowers and exotic fruits. Some prophets say that there is a future for Colombia in tea and wines. But that is very speculative and may turn out to be wrong.
corporate America has destroyed America --- they own everything, even our courts. Corporate America "courts" judges and sends them to seminars to educate them on the economy so they can rule against the average American --- here in America, "we have the best judges money can buy"

We run a big risk of signing for Free Trade with America. But some day that has to be done. I see no escape from this FATE and DESTINY.

it may have to be done someday, but now is not the time -- Americans are losing their jobs, their homes and their country -- we are under foreign occupation with 'elected' representatives more interested in foreign nationals that have entered this country "illegally"

we use to have a Vanity Fair in the Bayou but it went to Mexico . . . if American corporations want to outsource jobs to foreign countries to save money, then can can pay an import tariff as a penalty --- prior to the uncivil war, the northern controlled Congress passed a tariff that amounted to about 50% because the south funded the federal government with its import/export trade with textile mills in Europe

50% import tax for any American corporation that outsources jobs that American people will do should put a knot in their shorts

CAFTA Will Create Jobs and Level the Playing Field for American Workers

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases ... 715-1.html

    Dear Judy :

I don't want to contradict you and I can see the suffering of People in North Carolina that lost their Textile or Garment Industry jobs.

But please take into account that most Textile Apparel Jobs have been lost to China and not to Latin America.

There are not so many Textile - Apparel remaining jobs in America. But they can be saved by what America does best :

High Technology, Advanced Computers and Lasers, etc ... for Latin workers sewing clothes. Furnish the Machinery and Advanced Tech in Fibers, Fabrics, Yarns, etc ... Dyes, chemicals, etc ....

And furnish the Best Cotton for Central America.

With no CAFTA the Textile Apparel business in Central America will be slowly eroded by the Chinese.

Is it good to have no Textiles and Apparel in the Whole Western Hemisphere ???. And only a Chinese Apparel Super Power. ???

And lots of poverty in Central America ???

You might lose American jobs. OK !! OK !!! ..... But you gain more and better jobs in High Technology. It is a matter of retraining.

Am I naive ??? Or very pro Latin for being Hispanic ???

Please correct me !! .... I am buying Mr Bush North Carolina Speech and the White House Press Release.

    Vicente Duque
Only because it helps you and your people.
How will we despose of the waste? You know, the workers that are happy doing what they do and are not interested in "High Technology". The "Many Generations of Textile Workers". What will we do with these people?
    Where will these people go?
What we have is a "Hand Full" of people in DC that are Killing a Nation.
Human Nature will not let that happen without a Fight and Washington is too stupid and greedy to notice. That`s why Washington likes to do thing "In the Dark" ,Behind your Back. When "All of Ameirca" wakes up,we will simply take it back.
We`re not going to let some "Third World Country" take America, are you nut`s? Right after the Jap`s hit"Pearl Harbor" one of the Jap generals said" We have awaken a sleeping Giant. That`s what "Washington DC" is doing.Waking up a sleeping giant and they are so wrapped up in themselves they don`t even notice.
This is America your dealing with.
Nobody gave us the freedoms we have,we made them, and nobody is going to give them to you.
that`s what discussed me.You people didn`t have the will or the guts to make your own country "Free",you deserted it,and now you want someone that has worked hard to have what they have, to give it to you.You people are traitors to your own country and we ain`t giving you ours.
Just be glad Washington is in control at this time, otherwise your ass will be Packing for a one way trip home.
Oh Yeah!! From the looks of things,it won`t be long.
    Don`t get me started.
You can take that to the bank.

One other important thing that Bush NEVER uses in his "Statistics" besides the number of people who are no longer eligible for unemployment benefits is the fact that those unemployment figures are fundamentally flawed. There are two factors involved here. One is, of course, the high number of people who have lost their unemployment benefits. The other one that I think is even more critical is that those people who have been fortunate to find jobs have had to take minimum wage jobs that offer no benefits. This is just a very deceptive practice used by our government.

The people who have lost jobs that payed well for their skill level and offered good benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, etc. are now stuck in "Service jobs". That sounds real pretty but those "service jobs" mean McDonald's, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Burger King, etc. A lot of these are only part-time jobs. Those people sure can't draw unemployment to make up the difference.

So, I would like to see statistics that reflect the FACTS about the unemployment rate. I would like to see the statistics that compare the pay, benefits, etc. for these people who are now working with the pay, benefits, etc. that they were forced to give up when their jobs were shipped to China and Mexico and India and wherever else these jobs went.

    Bootsie,

My best approximation of the estimate timeframe for TRUTH out of our United States Federal Government will be within the first 30 days of the Replacement of Pink-Slipped Traitorous Federal Workers with Competent Loyal Patriotic AMERICANS who love their country more than a PAYCHECK!
