Business opposition doomed Ariz. immigration bills
Imagine that .... the Republicans folded to "big business" as usual. The Dems want the votes.... a never ending cycle of destruction with regard to our sovereignty and our culture In the United States.... Business opposition doomed Ariz. immigration bills
Strong business opposition is being cited as a major reason for the Arizona Senate's rejection of proposed new get-tough legislation on illegal immigration. (We need a copy of that letter)
The Associated Press
PHOENIX —
Strong business opposition is being cited as a major reason for the Arizona Senate's rejection of proposed new get-tough legislation on illegal immigration.
The Senate rejected the bills on Thursday when majority Republicans split and minority Democrats voted in lockstep against the bills, which included measures intended to force a U.S. Supreme Court ruling against automatic citizenship for U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants. Other bills dealt with health care, public services and everyday activities such as driving.
The outcome may have been sealed with the hand-delivery of a letter to lawmakers earlier in the week.
In the wake of controversy over last year's Arizona immigration law, dozens of CEOs warned in the letter that new state legislation on the contentious issue could hurt the state's struggling economy and cost jobs.

Everyone is scared to be the first to take the stand on the anchor baby issue. Once one breakes the ice then others will follow. Just need to find some politicians with a backbone and willing to do the RIGHT thing.

Business opposition played big role in Arizona Senate’s defeat of bills on illegal immigration By Associated Press, Friday, March 18, 6:44 PM
PHOENIX — Dozens of Arizona CEOs from hospitals, construction companies and other major businesses joined to turn back new get-tough legislation on illegal immigration, citing worries that emphasis on the issue could hurt the state’s struggling economy and cost jobs.
The result Thursday was something much different from a year ago, when Arizona’s governor enacted a tough local enforcement measure that put the state at the heart of a fierce national debate over the issue. This time, numerous Republican senators joined with Democrats in rejecting bills dealing with health care, government benefits and everyday activities like driving.
Besides business groups’ opposition, others factors came into play: There isn’t an election looming this fall, some GOP senators had never been too enthused by the severity of some of the bills and many lawmakers have simply become tired of the issue.
