Butler Co. Sheriff asks Ohio Gov. to stiffen immigration laws

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) -
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones has sent a letter to Ohio Governor John Kasich asking the Governor to help stiffen immigration laws in Ohio.

After citing several economic problems associated with illegal immigration, the Sheriff indicated his desire to see stiffer penalties for employers who hire illegal immigrants, stiffer penalties on illegal immigrants who come to Ohio and break Ohio laws, and the granting of authority to give local law enforcement the powers to arrest immigrants who are in Ohio illegally.

The Sheriff specifically asked the Governor to assist Senator Seitz and State Representative Combs in their efforts to get legislation passed that will hinder the flow of illegal immigrants into Ohio.

The letter reads:

Governor Kasich:

Would you look at having legislation introduced in the House and Senate with regards to stiffer immigration laws in Ohio?

Illegal immigrants are causing a host of problems to the economy throughout the United States, and Ohio is not exempt. They are working jobs that Ohioans would be happy to have. A majority of the money they make is being sent back to their homeland and not supporting the United States economic system. Some are receiving workers' compensation benefits and public assistance for food, shelter and medical care. All of this is an additional burden on the financial struggles of our government.

I would like to see legislation introduced and passed that will provide stiffer penalties to employers who hire illegal immigrants. One that will provide stiffer penalties on the illegal immigrants who come to Ohio and violate our laws. And, if they are in Ohio, give the authority to local law enforcement to arrest them for being here illegally.

Sir, this would be a great boost to Ohio's economy if you could help pave the way for jobs for Ohioans. I believe tackling the illegal immigrant financial toll to be a good place to start.

With the lack of jobs and the faltering economy in Ohio, I respectfully request that you assist Senator Seitz and Representative Courtney Combs, who are eager in their efforts to get legislation passed that will hinder the flow of illegal immigrants into Ohio.
