CBP Officers At International Bridge In South Texas Seize 70 AK-47 High Capacity Ammunition Magazines

Hidalgo, TX – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, U.S. Border Patrol agents and Hidalgo Police officers seized 70 AK-47, high capacity ammunition magazines during an outbound enforcement operation.

On August 23, CBP officers, Border Patrol agents and City of Hidalgo, Texas Police officers working outbound enforcement operations at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge conducted a secondary examination of a 2001 Chevy Cavalier sedan that was headed south into Mexico.

The driver was identified as a 20-year-old U.S. citizen while a passenger who exited the vehicle just before it reached the inspection area, was identified as an 18-year-old U.S citizen, both from McAllen, Texas. While in secondary, officers seized 70 AK-47 high capacity ammunition magazines that were found hidden inside the vehicle’s doors. The Chevy Cavalier was also seized by CBP.

The male driver and passenger were transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.
