(El Centro man caught transporting illegals)….The California Highway Patrol made the stop Friday afternoon.

At around 4:50 pm CHP Officer Salcedo was on routine patrol on Westbound Interstate 8, when he noticed a Ford F-250 pulling a travel trailer near Forrester Road. The pick-up was reportedly weaving between the number one and number two lanes, when Officer Salcedo decided to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle was being driven by 49-year-old Andrew Francis Peabody of El Centro. As the Officer approached the cab of the truck, he noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana. Salcedo called in a canine unit. The U. S. Border Patrol responded. A search of the trailer resulted in the discovery of 38-suspected illegal immigrants inside. The Highway Patrol Officer turned the investigation over to the Border Patrol. The driver and his smuggled passengers were taken into custody by the Border Patrol, who continue to investigate the incident.
