Businessman kidnapped from his home, police say

GARDEN GROVE - Several men in black clothes with the word "POLICE" printed on them and driving a black Lincoln Navigator burst into the home of a Garden Grove businessman just before dawn and kidnapped him, authorities said.

Later, a man driving a black Lincoln Navigator forced his way into a Santa Ana business and demanded drugs.

The kidnapped man's business, Black Jack Towing, used to have offices at that location, said Garden Grove police Lt. David Kivler. The business has since relocated.

Pablo Hernandez, 40, was kidnapped from his home in the 10600 block of Pearl Street about 5 a.m. by as many as six men, said Kivler.

The men were masked and armed with shotguns and knives when they forced their way into Hernandez' home, Kivler said. They tied Hernandez' hands behind his back, put a black cloth over his head and put him into a late-model black Lincoln Navigator, Kivler said. Police are also looking for a smaller silver vehicle, which may also have been involved, Kivler said.

While Garden Grove police were investigating the kidnapping, Santa Ana police were called about a man driving a black Lincoln Navigator who forced his way into a business in the 1200 block of Broadway. He was armed and demanded drugs, Kivler said.

The man was last seen driving away in the Lincoln. It was still unclear whether the two incidents were related, Kivler said.

Hernandez is 5-foot-7 and weighs 190 pounds, with a potbelly. He has short, straight, black-and-gray hair and is clean-shaven.

He was last seen wearing a tan T-shirt and blue-and-red boxer shorts.
