Local comments positive on church-based immigrant aid center proposal

With an estimated 200,000 undocumented immigrants in the 25-county region currently served by Catholic Charities of Central Texas, it would take more than 20 years just to clear the backlog if not a single additional case were added to the paperwork pile, said agency spokesperson Leslie Helmcamp.

That’s why the agency welcomed the news Monday that the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Buckner International are teaming up to create ISAAC, the Immigration Service and Aid Center.
