Officials at Monterey County Jail said Monday that federal Immigration Customs and Enforcement officials have taken into custody a Greenfield man accused of arranging the marriage last year of his 14-year-old daughter to a young adult neighbor.

Jail officials said Marcelino de Jesus Martinez, 37, was transferred into the custody of ICE agents on Sept. 14, the same day he finished a one-year sentence for felony child endangerment.

In December, authorities accused Martinez, a Triqi Indian from Oaxaca, Mexico, of arranging a marriage and dowry contract involving beer, $16,000, and other items, for his daughter to wed Margarito de Jesus Galindo, an 18-year-old neighbor. The couple then spent two weeks living together in Soledad and Greenfield. Martinez was sentenced in May.

Galindo was sentenced in April to three years' probation after he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor statutory rape.
