The minutemen said that picking up litter is not a publicity stunt, but an honest cleanup effort. No one should complain when groups are trying to help you. What I take from this is that it is coincidental that the stretch of Interstate 5 is near an illegal-immigrant checkpoint.

San Diego Minutemen sue to get trash-collecting site back
Feb 5, 2008
By: North County Times
The San Diego Minutemen took their battle to pick up litter near a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint to federal court Monday, suing the California Department of Transportation for allegedly trashing the group's free speech rights.
The anti-illegal immigration group contends that Caltrans officials bowed to a heckler's veto, succumbing to outside pressure when the department told the group it could no longer pick up trash near the checkpoint along Interstate 5 just south of San Onofre as part of the department's Adopt-a-Highway program.
The suit claims the government agency violated the Minutemen's First Amendment right of free speech and engaged in viewpoint discrimination by removing the group from the San Onofre site and giving them a more politically palatable section along Highway 52.
Caltrans has said safety concerns led it to remove the group's Adopt-a-Highway from the site. Officials last week cited safety concerns and said no one will be allowed to pick up litter along the freeway site.

The San Diego Minutemen were bad for business.
The sign, "Trash on the next 2 miles picked up by San Diego Minutemen," must have frightened the illegal aliens along the road . . . especially if they understood just enough English to be confused.
Seriously, though, the Minutemen picking up trash along this particular stretch of highway were strategically enabled to watch for illegal aliens walking around the BP checkpoint and reentering the highway to be picked up again. That was a major threat to the coyotes and the illegal aliens they smuggled. The San Diego Minutemen were bad for business. The coyotes (and other smugglers) are major contributors to the local LULAC, MEChA, and la Raza groups, who run interference for them. One man's terrorist is another man's undocumented worker.
Unless we enforce laws against illegal aliens today,
tomorrow WE may wake up as illegals.
The last word: illegal aliens are ILLEGAL!
