Cheaper produce could be on the horizon

    By William Pack - Express-News
Thanks to new Mexican tariffs, consumers could start paying less for almonds, wine and other products, and Texas farmers could start feeling an $11.1 million pinch.

Mexico imposed tariffs last month after Congress withheld funds for a cross-border trucking program that was authorized under the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Consequently, some exported items such as peanuts, grapes, onions and wine could become too expensive for Mexicans to purchase, leading to a glut north of the border that could drive down prices.

If it's not safe to eat, they could give it away and it wouldn't mean anything "good" came from it.

Call me getting cranky, but we don't really need to export anything to Mexico when they have tariffs in place. We need to feed all the illegals they already sent here. We can get jalapenos and habaneros from other parts of the world, and if they really need them badly, I am sure Florida and the Southwest can produce enough.

Illegals from Mexico can go home.

Fine, they can tax our stuff and we'll send them back their citizens!

I don't eat produce from Mexico and now the bins are all labeled with country of origin. We need to get that crap off our grocery shelves.

Tariff or no tariff I just hope the USA stands fast and not give in. I do not want their trucks on our highways or more illegals getting in onboard some truck and more drugs. And to top it off Kansas Cuty would be there first stop into the USA. That is a lot of territory before they are checked. Maybe higher prices on some goods but not good business sense.
