Well, well, well. Looks like LA....and the rest of the country......is seeing exactly what happens when you have more people taking than who are contributing.

Despite the troubling financial situation, Villaraigosa pledged to continue his 1,000-officer expansion of the Los Angeles Police Department -- an effort he called key to attracting business, even if it means cutting other services such as street paving and graffiti removal.

This is contradictory. Cutting services such as street repair and grafitti removal is just the start of LA falling into decay that is only going to continue to spiral out of control as the mayor continues to cut more and more improvement services and the city literally crumbles.

This is not an environment which is going to attract businesses and I don't care how many police officers one hires.

I would also question his insistence upon hiring more police officers at all cost. True, he may be playing upon people's fears as someone quoted in the article pointed out. But I also suspect something more behind it.

Could it be that he is afraid of something? Like how he is going to control millions of illegal aliens who erupt into violence once they realize that LA is no longer able to keep up with the out of control growth of that population and is now no more beneficial to them than their home countries?

Are the American tax-payers moving from Los Angeles due to the taxes, crowded schools, and the illegal alien influx leaving 'the poor people who only can here to work' and collect social services the 'new tax-payer base'?

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power."

That's exactly what is happening and it was inevitable.

LA, particularly, is in the crash and burn stage. Wonder what Tony is going to do when his crowds of once-adoring peasants turn on him and lose it completely?
