MEXICO CITY -- The Mexican government said on Wednesday that about 600 of the 1,282 meatpacking employees detained in immigration raids in several U.S. states are Mexicans, and called on U.S. authorities to temporarily release mothers detained in the raids so they can care for their U.S.-born children.

U.S. federal agents arrested immigrants at Greeley, Colo.-based Swift & Co. meat processing plants in six states Tuesday, after a nearly yearlong investigation revealed that illegal immigrants and others may have stolen or bought the identities and Social Security numbers of U.S. citizens and residents in order to work there.

"The Mexican government is requesting the provisional release of Mexican mothers apprehended in (Tuesday's) raid in the United States, so that they can care for their children born in that country," the Foreign Relations Department said in a press statement.


In other cases -- presumably those of mothers with Mexican-born children -- the department said it was working, with the help of U.S. community groups, to ensure those children placed in the care of relatives, or "in isolated cases," in the care of child welfare authorities.

The department said Mexican consular officials had interviewed many of the detainees, and offered to relay messages to relatives worried about their whereabouts.

It was unclear how many of the detainees might face criminal charges in the United States, or be sent back to Mexico.

What a joke! Washington should be sending stiff warnings to Mexico about this criminal invasion of illegals from Mexico. Is this not like an act of war by Mexico upon the United States?

Mexico thinks the US is a push over and can be manipulated by anything that elicts emotion such as mothers and children etc. They got this idea that we are push overs from our ferderal goverment who has turned a blind eye to illegals crossing the border for years.

Oh hell, let's just cut loose all mothers being held on felony criminal impersonation charges. Tell the victims of their crimes to stop whining and get over it, after all, these mom's have kid's to take care of!

I am sure that the kids can be transported to the custody of their parents by some means of transportation. This whining about separating the US kids from their parents crap is just that.
The kids need to be with their parents - wherever they may go. It is all about family values and the integrety of the family structure. Parents are supposed to support children, not use them as meal tickets.

I like the way they need to care for U.S. born children. Those delightful little "ANCHOR BABIES."

The more I think about this the more I angry I become......How many US citizens that are charged with a crime are released to take care of their children? NONE! WHY IN THE WORLD SHOULD PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE HERE COMMITING A CRIME AGAINST U.S. CITIZENS THINK THEY SHOULD BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY THAN A U.S. CITIZEN CHARGED WITH A CRIME????? Lets have some sympathy for the thousands of ID theft victims that are suffering right now! DOES the U.S. government think so little of its legal citizens that it would but the demands of Illegal Aliens above what is best and fair for U.S. citizens?

Yes, that is exactly what the government is doing.
On the news, very little was said about American citizens who have lost so much due to ID theft but they had illegal aliens on there whining about the hardships they are suffering from the raids. What is wrong with news stations that they think that sympathy can not run out for all these illegal aliens who have invaded our country?
