    California's criminal alien population rises

    California's criminal alien population rises

The number of criminal aliens incarcerated in California rose to 102,795 in 2009, a 17 percent increase since 2003, federal auditors reported Thursday.

This isn't cheap. Nationwide, the Government Accountability Office reports, it costs well over $1.1 billion a year for states to imprison criminal aliens -- those who committed a crime after entering the United States illegally. California, moreover, is more expensive than other states. GAO auditors estimated California spends $34,000 to incarcerate a criminal alien for one year; in Texas, it's only $12,000.

The audit, requested by Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-San Jose, will provide ammunition for states' perennial effort to secure more federal reimbursement dollars.

More than one in four of the illegal immigrants imprisoned in California are behind bars for drug offenses. Many are also repeat offenders. GAO auditors say that, based on a survey, criminal alien inmates have been arrested an average of seven different times.

Yet she does not care about securing the borders or doing anything to stop illegal immigration yet she is okay with taxpayers paying the bill to keep these illegal alien criminals her prison in her state.

    AM I missing something here??

Wonder what it costs Sheriff Joe?

I'm sorry, if you (the state,NOT the legal residents!) want to keep this kind of person from DEPORTATION then not ONE freakin' dollar! You want 'em? YOU pay for them! Each and every illegal supporter should be taxed $100 a week for this crap... NOT the taxpayers.

this tells me that illegal invaders are directly involved in the drug trade, most likely, acting as mules and then distributors once the product makes it across the border.

What better way to distribute your product than by loitering in a Home Depot parking, lot under the guise of seeking "day laborer work!" The cops won't bother you and neither will anyone else.

What I am finding is many illegals who get pulled over during a traffic stop are not only arrested for no valid driver's license and at times providing fake ID but they are found with illegal drugs either on them or in the vehicle. The amount is not enough for more than a possession charge.

Probably due to the sweet deals the Prison Guards have through their labor agreements which is the fault of ex-Governor Davis from what I hear. Also this union gave Gov. Brown $2 million towards his election campaign. And most legislators here are pro-illegals so if this state wants to get reimbursed for the entire cost per prisoner it doesn't deserve it.
