Call for Special Birth Certificate for Children of Illegal Immigrants

"People will get behind this," said Neil Turner, who supports a new ballot initiative that would require illegal immigrants to get a special birth certificate for their American born children.
Those parents also have to provide proof of legal residency before they could receive the birth certificate.

"This will discourage immigration, illegal immigration which I think is a horrendous problem," said Turner.

Turner is a spokesman for San Diego Christians For Secure Borders.

He believes the ballot measure will help alleviate crowded schools and hospitals struggling to provide services to so-called anchor babies.

"It can cost $100,000 just for a preemie baby and for every baby they have anchor or not it costs $25,000," said Turner.

"It's a measure that will not go very far with the voters," said Pedro Rios.

Rios is the director of the San Diego chapter of The American Friends Service Committee.

He says the ballot initiative creates a second class of American citizens.

"Which is a clear violation of the equal protection clauses of the U.S. Constitution," said Rios.

If the measure passes, he is certain it will be overturned in federal court.

"It's something that doesn't exist in current law. We don't have different citizenship status in the United States."

We need a 14th Amendment Anchor Baby Law!

Illegals and Anchors must all be deported and/or use attrition strategies to get them out of OUR country.

here's the deal:

why is it that children born in this country from foreign diplomats parents are denied citizenship but children of illegals aliens born in thsi country are granted citizenship?

it doesn't make sense! Thsi needs to be sorted out. Teh big anchor baby scheme has worked. Aemricans have been played for suckers!

Exactly alamb. People who are here legally - their children are the nationality of the parents. People who are here illegally - their children are citizens. Makes absolutely no sense. The difference between them is that the diplomats are well educated, self supporting and intend to go home at some point. The illegals are poor, ignorant and intend to stay here milking American taxpayers as long as possible.

Children usually can get the citizenship of their parents. The 14th Amendment is supposed to extend citizenship to those under the jurisdiction of the United States. It is really dubious that people whose parents are here in violation, contempt and defiance of the jurisdiction should get the same benefit. A compromise would be if the illegal aliens submitted to adjudication before pregnancy.

Obviously this guy doesn't get that the entire point of the initiative is to challenge current federal government misuse of the 14th Amendment in the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court rules in our favor, then these babies will not be US citizens at all, making this dolts argument of "second class citizenship" moot.

They simply will not be citizens but citizens of their parents countries.

Good-bye - Deport!

This issue has never been brought before the Supreme Court and it's about damn time. Anyone with common sense knows that the 14th amendment was ratified to guarantee citizenship to freed slaves and their descendents. Since when did anchor babies become descendents of slaves who were freed before, during, and after the Civil War?

If we want to get a change we need to do it soon who knows who Obama will appoint
