unconditional aid
While Calderon wants unconditional aid from the U.S. The
Congressional version of the Merida Initiative stipulates the aid is
contingent on guarantees of civilian investigations into human rights
abuses by the Mexican military. Calderon considers these
conditions an intrusion on Mexico's sovereignty, and Mexican officials
announced that they would wait to see the final version before
deciding whether to accept the aid. (The San Jose Mercury News,
Richardson Plugs for Anti-Drug Aid Plan, May 29, 200
Didn't we give them money beofre to train their Mexican army to fight drug carels and this same army turned on us? Don't we give them enought money by supporting thier poor? Why can't we spend that money on OUR side of the obrder by helping our agents control the violence and keep it from spilling over onto our side?Last edited by Jean; 07-21-2013 at 10:32 PM.

Giving foreign aid to ANY country is a mistake. We have international bodies specifically designated for such purposes. History has taught us that providing financial aid (and especially military aid) in any capacity only leads to a larger bureaucracy and more corruption (looting to be more precise).
Do you need proof? Look at Israel! We give them $5 billion a year in military aid, yet even THEY admit the bureaucracy and corruption is the worst in that particular area.
How about Mexico? We've given billions in aid, yet they can't show things have discernibly improved in a SINGLE area where aid was given. If anything, things have gotten worse.
So the moral is, aid from other countries doesn't work!!!!!

I'll be darned if I want to send them money and not have it go to whats it intended for. It's obvious they don't know how to set priorities for the money when they get it anyway and can't be trusted to keep any of thier agreements. I find it quite hipocritical to refuse any stipulations from us, yet they feel they have no standards or rules to abide by in our country. I swear....the best thing is to just cut them off and send all their illegals back because this "union" is a total waste of time and money for nothing.

The U.S. needs to withdraw any consideration of giving Mexico aid toward their corrupt government. If they cant accept the conditions, then dont give them money. SPEND IT ON KEEPING THEM OUT - BUILD STRONG DOUBLE LAYERED FENCES!RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends

When the army had to disarm entire police forces and give them lie detector tests to determine if the police were working with cartels the situation is in dire straits and corruption is the rule rather than the exception.
Calderon needs to clean up one town at a time. He also needs to close down the network of Mexican consulates in the U.S. Corruption extends to all levels of Mexican government and the consulates give Mexican criminals connections and routes. The diplomats in charge of the consulates could each be assigned a Mexican city to over-see. Consulate lawyers who aid illegal immigrants in the U.S. could be utilized in Mexico prosecuting criminals.
The border needs to be secured on both sides and Mexico evidently doesn't want that. Control of the border would severly damage drug cartels.
Mexico stands to lose billions if drug and human smuggling ends and billions in remittances if illegal immigration from Mexico is stopped."Distrust and caution are the parents of security."
